Description

A new painting in Photoshop 7 that was a little more experimental than my usual stuff.
Normally, I tend to do a lot of planning and concept sketches, but here I started with just the face on a brown background.
The background consists of mostly textured brushes in different layers set to various modes such as "soft light", etc. I've rarely done stuff like this before and it was fun

She is Helen of Troy, in the background the burning town.

As much as I know she wouldn't have smiled at this situation...
Her left shoulder has gone too far and her face is cut weird at the left side - put there a little shadow or hair.
Now to the good things. Her face is very original and I like it. I don't find her beautiful but I like it too.
Good work on hair and dress!
Interesting background - very nice experiment. You should try it more :)
Good work

there might be something wrong with her head overall (actually canīt really point with my finger on it)
but very good work

Good first attempt, the shadows, the fabric and hair structure are excellent.

One thing that seems a bit off is her right arm, where the part above the Humerus is thinner than the part below.

The fire could be more obvious in the background. had you not mention it, I am not sure I'd realize this was a burning city. :)

Fabulous work.

Great characterd design!! Yep, the mistake in anatomy itīs like Curly said. Her head itīs a bit big for the body, a great excersice itīs made all the character naked and after you can draw the clothes. Great background!
Iīm fan of your works!!!

i remember this one! i have to say your experiments worked out really well int his picture specially the textures you made in the background! The figure is also very well done with good skin tones although there's somme anaotmy issues that people already pointed out.

Good work on the background and the details of her dress, and fire highlights.

If her hands and wrists were smaller, much would be corrected in anatomy. A petite woman will often have a head larger as a tall man will often have a head appear smaller. I love a picture with a person who has "real" looks, not model.

Finally I know where your avatar was from ;) I think the face is really interesting- it does indeed remind me of a greek statue or similar. The background with your texture experiments is also really lovely.
On a personal opinion - since I was always a huge fan of kassandra and the story about her, I would too have prefered if she would not have smiled but as I said that s just a personal thing =)

my max points

Good painting style, but her left shoulder is a bit longer than the right, and it doesn't look right. Also the background could have had a bit more depth. Nice work though.

i love the fact that she's beautiful in a very unique way and doesn't have barbie-esque features. especially since she was supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the world(right?). i think the background is a tad bit too 'brushy' compared to the style used on painting her, so i'd like to see a bit more communication between the two styles basically ;)
but great job!

nice colors... the right (rather the left of her) wrist looks a little fat...anyway, unique face though...
